Community-driven policy recommendations to expand school-based mental health services for students in Birmingham, Alabama

In the fall of 2020, the Birmingham Coalition for Student Mental Health launched an effort to learn more about student mental health directly from students, families, educators, and community members.

We surveyed over 800 individuals and spoke to over 220 stakeholders through 24 community conversations held by coalition members across Birmingham.

We heard a lot about the challenges of mental health. We also heard many incredible, innovative solutions that stakeholders want to see in their schools.

The BCSMH Policy Playbook is the result of these efforts.

In efforts to be community-driven, we are always seeking more feedback from our community. Once you have read the Policy Playbook, let us know your thoughts, feedback, and ideas here.
